Cost of Living
Goshen County ranks as one of the most affordable places to live in Wyoming, and is a leader in Wyoming economics when comparing food, housing, apparel, transportation, medical care and recreation, according to a cost of living report released by the Wyoming Department of Administration and Information, Economic Analysis Division.
The cost of living index for Goshen County was 88, based on the following scores:
- 95 for food
- 74 for housing
- 119 for apparel
- 100 for transportation
- 105 for medical care
- 97 for recreation
The study compared prices on 140 different items in food, housing, apparel, transportation, medical care and recreation categories. The categories were weighed by importance and portion of the average consumer’s budget; housing being the highest weighted category and apparel being the lowest.

Inflation rates for Wyoming are calculated on a regional basis. The inflation rate for Goshen County and Southeast Wyoming was 3.4% compared to the statewide average of 6.1%. The Southeast region includes Goshen, Niobrara, Platte, Laramie, Albany and Carbon counties. The Southwest region, which included Sublette, Lincoln, Sweetwater and Uinta Counties, had the highest inflation rate at 8.1 percent.
